Water

There is something so peaceful, so soothing, so inviting about water. I needed all of those things over the weekend. That is why I spent the entire day Saturday riverside. It was quite enjoyable and I hope to add that to my future on a more regular basis. In fact, I’m actually toying with the idea of living near a body of water. It doesn’t have to be a significant amount, just enough to provide that healing flow.

This is what my Saturday looked like.

Water

This was a view we happened to catch in Newport, KY, home of the Newport Aquarium.

I love the rolling hills of the city of Cincinnati. That is part of the charm of the town, the river and the rolling hills on which the city was built.

Add a little lunch to the day on the river and it’s pure heaven, thanks to Joe’s Crab Shack. What a view.

Love Water

We stopped at the Dinsmore Homestead along the way. We have stopped there before too but never long enough to enjoy the flower garden or see the historical home. Flowers are a second pleasure along with the water.

I often think I was born in the wrong era, the wrong setting. I feel old-fashioned in many of my beliefs and yet, I cling to them. I long for simpler times but I wonder to if there ever was such a thing.

I know it must have been a hard life living without all the technology and modern conveniences we now have but there is something very appealing about this scene.

Traveling south and e’re keeping the flowing Ohio in sight, we were headed to Rabbit Hash, Kentucky. We have visited this place before as well but it was worth a second look. We stopped at a historical site of a horrible holocaust that killed 163 people back in the late 1800s. This atrocity was devastating in other ways as well, costing the city and residents more that $350,00, which was a lot of jingle back in the day. However, devastating the site may have been in those dark days and many to follow, it provides a peaceful  place today to sit on a rock wall and enjoy the view of the river that gently bends as boats aimlessly float and fisherman cast their poles.

Our last stop was Carrollton, KY, another river town on the Ohio. We stopped to investigate the newly developed river walk and watch the sun go down. Did I mention sunsets are high on my list? They are. There’s just something about a sunset. To watch one at water’s edge is life at it’s best.

Do you like the water as much as I do?

  1. I love water, too. The phrase in Psalm 23 where the poet says “He leads me beside the still waters”, which causes me to believe that we need to be by water whenever we can go. The ocean may not be still water, but the rhythmic sound of the surf is so peaceful. Sitting by a lake, stream, or river calms my spirit and brings me joy. Great post!
