Truths That Promote Personal Growth

Life is difficult. It. Just. Is. Not always, nor extremely so, but there are difficulties that arise throughout this journey we are on. I have stumbled upon some truths that promote personal growth.

1. Everything is as it should be is truth number one. I had a hard time with that one. I have struggled with it from the very first time I heard it. How can this be? What does it mean? In fact, I know of one person who goes as far as to say “Everything is just perfect”. I’m not sure I can go all the way to perfect, however, I think I am finally catching a glimpse of everything being as it should be. It’s not permanent. It will change. But while I am here, experiencing the event, let me learn the things I need to learn and carry those into the future.

2. No pain, no gain. We’ve all heard this before. It can also be stated as such: it is usually through our deepest loss and pain that we experience the most growth because that is when we become open to change and new possibilities. When we become open to all that life has to offer and embrace changes that come into our lives, then personal growth is a given.

3. Should I stay or should I go? This is another tough decision that we all have to make at one time or another, in various areas of our lives. Do I quit or just keep going, putting one foot in front of the other, doing the next right thing I know to do? This is never an easy question to answer and it is usually extremely helpful to find support when asking this question. The need to have someone trusted to talk through this question is imperative.

4. You have to take care of yourself first. You. Just. Do. This is in no way selfish. You’ve heard it told that if you are on an airplane that’s going down, first put your own oxygen mask on, even if you are traveling with kids. You need to put yours on first before your help your kids with theirs. You will be more helpful to your kids if you are breathing than if you…well…expire. Taking care of yourself first puts you in a position to help others who need or ask for help.

5. The only thing you can absolutely control is how you react to things out of your control. I prefer the word “Respond” actually. Reacting conjures up knee-jerk images in my mind. Responding seems thoughtful and intentional. This I know, we have a choice of responding in whatever manner we desire, no matter the circumstance or event that arises. We have the option to slow things down and decide how we want to respond. There are precious few things we have control over in this life; choosing how to respond is one of those things.

There are other truths that promote personal growth. I just chose a few to focus on today. Growing into the person you desire to be is a beautiful thing. It takes a determination to become the authentic you that you were created to be. As a life coach I get to help women every day make the changes they need to make in order to live the lives they choose to live. I am honored to assist them through transitions and events that occur in order to help them achieve personal growth

Are you living the life you have chosen?
