Where Has Summer Gone? Grammy’s Life So Far

I can’t believe that it is August. Where has summer gone? School has started is various parts of the country, and it starts here in a week and a half. Not that it changes my life at all, no siree, for the first time in 18 years the beginning of school means nothing more to me than seeing school buses on the road. And such is life.

My friend Jan, over at Grammy’s Life So Far has written a post called Where Has Summer Gone? that sums it up beautifully. It took me back to the summer days of my childhood and all that summer vacation entailed. Her beautiful words spoke to my heart and brought back memories from far ago. It took me back my post entitled Landmarks. This photo is the embodiment of my childhood. It. Just. Is.

When I was a child, summer seemed to stretch on forever.

It was a much simpler time. There were no computers, iPads, smart phones, or other electrical devices, other than maybe a radio that ran on batteries and could be taken outside. There were only three broadcasting networks. There was no cable TV. There were no VCRs, DVDs, BlueRay, or the Internet. No one could rent a movie to watch. The three networks ran special programs that were advertised well in advance. We would make time to sit and watch the programs together. Two that played once a year were “The Wizard of Oz” and “Cinderella”. We did not stay inside and watch TV during the day.

Summer was a time for creativity. We played outside in the morning, swimming in a pool that was probably three feet deep.
