New Year’s Resolutions

The new year is now a week old. A lot of New Year’s resolutions have probably already gone by the wayside. I’m not sure why that is but it happens. Do you make New Year’s resolutions?

One Day at a Time

I don’t. I have in the past and have even switched to the modern term “goals”. Goals are more attainable, with less pressure than the traditional New Year’s resolutions. I’ve been reading the various resolutions and goals of fellow blogging friends lately; personal goals, business goals, health goals, etc.

One such blogger wrote a post entitled: This Year, I’m Not Making Resolutions. I’m Making PLANS. It is a good post. It begins with: “As the end of December rolls around, I find myself reflecting on the year past and dreaming of the year to come, wondering where it will take me and what I can do differently to make it even better. I make resolutions, resolving to do this or change that, and then halfway through January, I quit – usually, before I even gave myself a chance to get started”. Click HERE to read the rest. Do it!

Goals are important targets to focus on as we launch into the new year, but why do we put so much importance, so much pressure on ourselves and the date that is much the same as the other 364 days? I like the idea of plans better. Plans for the day, the month, the year and even more long-term, without the looming date that statically and historically destine us to fail.

It’s not too late to change. I just heard a sermon by Kyle Idleman, the teaching pastor of Southeast Christian Church, on that very subject. Each day is a clean slate. Why wait for the new year?

Life is full of pressures and we all have more than our share of “have tos”. Why add to the stress? Instead, I choose to plan for the future and live each day as if it is all I’m given. Because when all is said and done, that’s all any of us really have.
