Mother’s Day and a Wedding

Letting go and weddings, I do neither of these well. I encountered them both this weekend, all rolled into one.

My aunt got married yesterday. My uncle died suddenly six years ago leaving her a widow. Six years is a long time to live alone. Their wedding was a small affair. She was a beautiful, happy bride. That makes me smile.

I called her last weekend to wish her well. I also wanted to make sure she would still be my aunt. I was only half joking. She has been my aunt for most of my life, marrying my uncle before the tenacles of my memory can reach.
