House Hunting

We are house hunting. I started looking at houses with a realtor during December. Crazy time for house hunting, I know, with all the extra…EVERYTHING during the holidays, but it was time.

I have posted about moving from our home of thirteen years here, here and here. Heck, I even wrote an E Book about it which you can find here, so when I mean it was time, I really mean it was time.

I can’t even tell you how many houses I’ve looked at. Not only am I pouring over listings on the computer the realtor sends and the ones my husband finds, I am physically walking through the ones that look, well…appealing (in some capacity). They have to have curb appeal from my computer first.

I found one I like. No, wait, I found one I really like. It says HOME to me. It does! And the funny thing about this house that says home is it isn’t exactly a perfect fit for our family of five, which will be dwindling in a couple of years because our kids are grown, and therein lies the dilemma.

Home

This house that holds my heart is back out in the county from which we came. I grew accustomed to not being on top of the neighbors when we lived out away from the city limits. If we choose to move out again it will mean being 20 minutes from work, (more for a few of my jobs) church (a place we are very involved and are there a few times a week) and most places we utilize on a daily basis. For my 21 year old son it means an extra 25 minute drive to an already 20 minute drive, four days a week to attend classes, just to name a major inconvenience.

Did I mention this house is my dream house? It’s move-in ready and it has a nice pool! The 21 year old can move out, I’m thinking, right?  🙂

We started looking in town again due to this whole driving thing, with the stipulation that the house MUST have some outdoor privacy. I love being outside but I want to be alone-ish. We met the realtor at a house today that proved to meet these needs: it’s in a great location (close to where we are now) yet with the privacy I yearn for. It’s a good house, a big house,  and a good deal. It has been on the market since yesterday and already the owner has another offer besides ours.

Here’s where it gets a little tricky. While we were in this ever-s0-outdated house that is more than adequate for our family, our realtor gets a call from the listing realtor of the house of my dreams. Even though we didn’t make an offer on that house, the  listing realtor wanted to make US an offer! Really?

So we wait. We wait to see if the house with location accepts our offer. And we wait to see what deal the house I ♥ is ready to make.

And that was my day.

Are you house hunting  or have a story about your house hunting adventures?

  1. Good luck house hunting! I hope it goes well for you; I’m happy you all will be back in a house soon! I’m tired of real-estate myself…hopefully you’ll find something that will work for a long time!

  3. Mentally house hunting through the computer and so far just one call to a realtor. It is time. We typically have moved for other compelling reasons, transfers wiht military or lease / landlod issues when overseas for our 2nd career. Buying a new home for other reasons is strange and we agree it is time but how to proceed? I think it may be time to make the next step…actually look. Hope all works out for you and family. Linda
