Friday I had a guest blogger: An Engaging Guest Post. She told the story of how she just recently became engaged. It was sweet. Click here.
I thought now would be a good time to tell my engagement story, mainly to show the major difference in the aged ages.
I was 19 when I got engaged. I know, I know, so very young even for the late 1970s. It wasn’t the big romantic ordeal that occurs these days. In fact, it seems now as if most engagements of that time weren’t the well thought out to-do they are now. It happened something like this.
We (my then boyfriend) and I were sitting in the car somewhere, I don’t really remember where…okay, really I do, but I’m not telling. I could be wrong, but I think the conversation went a little something like this.
Danny (my husband): I think we should get married some day.
Me: Okay.
Romantic, huh?
A few days later we went shopping for the ring. I received the ring on Valentine’s Day. Actually, it was the day before. I just couldn’t wait! Nope, it wasn’t a surprise. I seriously don’t even remember the moment he gave me the ring. No pics to document the occasion. Sad, I know.
And a year later…the wedding.
Which looked a little bit like this:
Aww…how sweet. And so very long ago.
The bottom line, I suppose, is there are lots of different roads to happyily ever after.
Can I just say, “I like”!
Haha…thank you!
My engagement wasn’t to romatic either. But 29 years later, we are still married. smile.
That’s what I’m talking about! 32 years ago, or 29, we just didn’t so it that way. Thanks for the comment!
