Day Tripping in Kentucky

Sunday was another day tripping in Kentucky kind of day. The weather was nice with low humidity so off we went.

My husband printed off a route from Trails so we grabbed some water and coffee and hit the road.

This tour started in Frankfort, the capitol city. Since we have visited Frankfort many times we didn’t linger. We had a little trouble finding the route we were supposed to take and couldn’t figure out why. So we’re going with a publication misdirection. It surely wasn’t our fault!

Our first actual stop was at Bray’s in Bedford, Kentucky where we purchased some freshly-picked-just-a-few-hours-ago  Gala apples and white peaches; we also received a few gardening tips from the owner of the stand!

Our next stop was in Ghent, Kentucky. Never heard of it! It was a very industrious town with huge factories/operations along the way.

We were driving along the Ohio River at this point and decided to check our Markland Dam and Locks.

We climbed the steps (there are more than it looks!) to watch as a barge was going through the locks but it was moving so slowly that we journeyed on because we still had things to see!

The drive was very picturesque as we drove along the river and crossed a very blue bridge.

We finally arrived at our destination: Rabbit Hash, Kentucky.  We caught a glimpse of Rising Sun Casino, across the Ohio in Indiana.

Again, never heard of Rabbit Hash but apparently a lot of folks have…especially bikers!

The old general store is still open with snacks for sale and other whatnots.

There were way more bikes lined up than what is pictured here. In fact, there wasn’t a lot of parking so a motorcycle may have been the way to go! We keep that in mind for the next visit!

It was a cute, historic town with a couple of shops.

This Iron Works store is now an antique shop.

And this store houses an art gallery. I’m not sure what else is in there. There was a smoker grill with picnic tables and a small stage beside the building as well.

The time had ticked away so quickly and we were starving so we headed to Florence, Kentucky for a little something to eat, skipping a few stops along the way. But no worries, we know where to go if we decide to visit again!

Do you enjoy day trips?
